HP 8640B Signal generator. 450 KHz to 525 MHz, CW, AM & FM WORKS WELL!

Description

This is a restored Hewlett Packard HP8640B, Serial number 2249A20795, with Option 001 (Variable Modulation Frequency).
The HP8640B is arguably the best  laboratory-grade signal generator available for under 0.  It was very carefully designed and manufactured by Hewlett-Packard.  It is heavy because it is so well shielded which allows it to determine a receiver's MDS ( (Minimum Discernible Signal) down to -140 dBM.
It outputs CW, AM, & FM signals from -140dBm to + 20dBm in the frequency range 450 kHz to 525 MHz. It is an ideal signal generator for use repairing and aligning MF, HF and VHF receivers as well as in testing and calibrating  a wide range of electronic circuits.  Manuals for the HP8640B are available free on line from several sources including Agilent.
The 8640B includes a built-in counter that goes up to 550 Mhz The counter can be used to count the output frequency of the generator or to count some other signal's frequency.
The +20 dBm to -140 dBm attenuator is very accurate.
CW waveform photographs are shown of outputs at 455KHz, 25 MHz, 50MHz and 525MHZ at an output levels of +10 dBm. Output levels up to 20 dBm are generated, but the  power meter shown only goes up to +10 dBm.
Since the unit is no longer in production, it is guaranteed to function as described for only 30days.  Given reasonable care it can function for years and most all of the parts for it are still available on eBay.  For parts on eBay, look up HP 08640.  For the signal generators themselves look up HP 8640B.
The unit will be double-boxed to ensure it arrives safely.
These units are heavy (about 55 pounds when double-boxed) which explains the high shipping cost.
